Balmain Spring Summer 2011 Womenswear Full Fashion Show

PARIS, September 30, 2010
By Nicole Phelps
The sunny mood of the Milan collections? It was au revoir to all that on day two of Paris fashion week. A few hours after Balenciaga's teddy-boy girls strode out this morning, Christophe Decarnin was putting twenty-first-century proto-punks on his Balmain runway. They wore biker jackets studded and safety pinned to the hilt; tight, bleached jeans or shredded cut-offs; and holey T-shirts to match their torn fishnet stockings. "It's a look I've always liked," the designer said backstage. "I keep pictures of it all over my office."

DSQUARED2 WOMEN'S 2011 SPRING SUMMER PART 1

MILAN, September 27, 2010
By Nicole Phelps
The first look out, a crystal-encrusted sweater and hot-pant set, suggested we were in for a vampy romp in the style of Dean and Dan Caten's last show—none too subtle and without much in common with what the brothers sell so successfully in stores. This time, though, the opening was not a sign of things to come. While the temptation to turn up the sizzle on the runway must be hard for these showmen to resist, resist it they did. Instead, they struck a balance, serving up preppy tailoring with a winking sex appeal rather than a full-on assault.

Viktor & Rolf - Spring Summer 2011 Full Fashion Show

PARIS, October 2, 2010
By Nicole Phelps
The idea Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren had for Spring—to riff on a man's shirt—was a simple one, and timely, too, given all the recent talk about classic sportswear. What the Dutch duo put on the runway, however, was a collection of quite theatrical clothes. No surprise there, perhaps. It started with a banker's striped button-down, only it had been turned into a short shirtdress made from strips of embroidered blue ribbons with—count 'em—four collars and four sets of cuffs skipping up the arms. And it ended with a wedding gown that spanned the width of the runway, its skirts made from shirt tails and the bodice from starchy pearl-studded collars sticking out every which way, including up past the model's earlobes.

LIto Karakostanoglou

One the most weird and wonderful things I have seen, such a brill idea. Lito is a jewellery designer who collects real Scarab beetles from across the world and inserts them in to some serious looking cages to make one hell of a fabulous and intriguing jewellery collection, incoporating colours that only nature could produce, this is a new level.....
